I do not intend to be part of a power struggle : Speaker

Colombo (News 1st): Speaker Karu Jayasuriya stated that he does not intend to be a part of a power struggle. The media unit of the speaker stated that Speaker Karu Jayasuriya made this statement in response to a request made by a number of civil societies that met him today (September 06). A communique released by the media unit of the Speaker stated that heads of more than 40 leading civil organizations had met with Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and requested him to take up candidacy at the upcoming presidential elections. The communique states that the representatives of the civil organizations had expressed their faith in Karu Jayasuriya and requested him to take up leadership in the fight against fascism at the upcoming presidential election. Responding to this request made by the representatives of the civil organizations Speaker Karu Jayasuriya had said that he does not intend to be a party to a power struggle. The speaker said that he will only consider the request made by supporters of the UNP led alliance based on the condition that they will unite and move towards one goal.
