Colombo (News1st) - Renovation activities of the Deegawapi Chaithya in Ampara commenced recently, under the auspices of Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Minister, Sajith Premadasa.
A total sum of Rs 852.5 million from the Central Cultural Fund was allocated for the renovation which will be done in three years.
The process is taking place as per the advice of Deegavapiya Chief Incumbent Venerable Maha-Oya Sobitha Thero.
Minister Sajith Premadasa stated that they have initiated a number of programs for the historic development of the Sambudhdha Sasana. He stated that their objective is to complete this program in 3 years. The Central Cultural Fund will be providing the Rs 852.5 million rupees required for this project, he noted.
Chief Incumbent of Deegawapiya, Venerable Mahaoya Sobitha Thero stated that they could be pleased that there is someone with the urge to protect the Sambuddha Sasana and it is something the whole country can be proud of. "At this moment when the foundation stone was placed for the renovation of this structure, I wish to reiterate there is a leader who has the urge to protect the Sasana", the Thero continued.
