Gotabaya Rajapaksa promises security for women and children at the first SLPWF convention

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The first convention of the Sri Lanka Podujana Women’s Front was held in Colombo yesterday (August 31) at the premises of the Sri Lanka Exhibition & Convention Centre. The event took place under the auspices of the party's presidential candidate, Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Several MPs who support the SLPP, the National Organiser of the SLPP Basil Rajapaksa, and the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa attended the event. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa shared his plans to safeguard the women and the children of the country in his government. He noted that it was necessary to ensure maternity benefits for women with children who are employed. Gotabaya Rajapaksa added that it was necessary to look into microfinance schemes who exploit the ignorance and helplessness of rural mothers. He went on to note that his government will ensure scams of this would not occur and compensate for those who are affected. In addition, Gotabaya Rajapaksa promised a sophisticated education system for the children of this country, under his rule. He shared his thoughts on the requirement of a proper mechanism to safeguard women and children who are prone to a multitude of abuse. He finally added that it was high time they introduce a measure to expedite the hearing of court cases related to women and child abuse. Opposition Leader, Mahinda Rajapaksa who attended the convention halfway into the event noted that it was the women who reminded them although the SLPP lost the last election, the mandate was all along with them. The opposition leader added that the current government failed to understand the women of the country and gave promises which could not be fulfilled, a terrible mistake by them. He added that most of the party supporters who work dedicatedly are women, and through SLPP they have created a party who understand the value of the women in this country. He went on to note that the country needs a ruler who has a wife instead of a first lady. Former President finally requested the crowd to join hands with them to build a better country.
