Colombo (News 1st) A statement has been released by the Catholic Bishop's Conference in Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the 04/21 tragedy. The Plenary Meeting evaluated the situation in the country in the aftermath of the 04/21 attacks. The statement reads, "It has been our earnest appeal to the government that an impartial inquiry be held and the perpetrators brought before the law. The CBCSL is profoundly saddened to note that a just and a fair investigation has not yet taken place." The statement adds, "Unfortunately, we do not see any positive signs in this direction. The report of the three-member presidential commission is yet to see the light of day. The people are waiting to see the results of this inquiry as it was promised to them. The government is yet to give an assurance to the people that there is only one set of laws in the country for everyone." The statement acknowledged and appreciated the commitment of the armed forces and the police. The statement concluded with an earnest appeal once again, to the government and political leaders of the country to ensure an "independent and impartial inquiry as a matter of utmost urgency." The statement reiterated that though relief measures were appreciated, it is more important to do justice by bringing those responsible before the law of the country expeditiously.
