SLNS "Gajabahu" carries out first rescue operation

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The very first rescue operation undertaken by SLNS ‘Gajabahu’ after joining the Sri Lanka Navy fleet took place yesterday(June 17). Based on information from the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, SLNS ‘Gajabahu’ was sent out to retrieve a sick fisherman who had left for fishing on a multi-day fishing vessel from the Beruwala fisheries harbour on June 9th. The sick fisherman was safely taken aboard the naval vessel about 109 nautical miles off the Galle lighthouse. The patient was administered first aid aboard the ship. Subsequently, the sick fisherman was transferred to a fast attack craft and brought to the Galle harbour.
