COLOMBO (News 1st) -  The residents of the Thoduwawa in Chilaw have been severely inconvenienced due to the active erosion in the surrounding beach. Erosion of the beaches in Thoduwawa in Mahawawa had begun a few days ago and already at least an area of 200meters has been eroded. According to News 1st correspondent, the construction of a ridge for the safety of the coastal belt began about a year ago and it was not completed. Various temporary tents built in the area face the threat of being washed away into the sea due to erosion. Moreover, the fishermen in the area have been severely affected by this situation. A local noted that their dry fish industry is severely affected by the erosion and if the erosion is to continue their houses will be damaged as well. He requested the authorities to look into the matter.
