Over 1000 excise officers deployed to enforce excise law

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Excise Department declared this week (with effect from yesterday-June 15) an Excise Crime Investigation Week and would arrest any persons who violate the Excise Law. Deputy Commissioner of Excise Department, Kapila Kumarasinghe noted that 1000 excise officers attached to 58 excise centres have been deployed islandwide to arrest individuals who run illicit liquor and drug rackets. The Department of Excise has implemented a hotline for the general public to reach out to officials of the Excise Department to provide information on production or selling of illicit liquor and drugs.
