COLOMBO (News 1st) - The government has decided to impose Police Curfew with immediate effect for the entire North Western Province until further notice.
According to the Police media spokesperson, SP Ruwan Gunasekara, this decision has been taken due to the tense situation in the province. Tense situations were reported in various areas across the North Central Province yesterday(May 12) and today(May 13).
Bingiriya Police Division arrested 6 suspects in connection to the incidents. Steps were taken to keep the suspects under the custody of the Hettipola Police for their own safety.
However, Kurunegala District MP, Dayasiri Jayasekara arrived at the Hettipola Police this morning(May 13) and took the suspects back to the Bingiriya Police Division to release them on bail.
Meanwhile, a commotion occurred as a mob of people behaved in an unruly manner in Hettipola town this afternoon. Security Forces took steps to disperse the crowd.
For additional security purposes, Police imposed a curfew on the entire North Western Province to control such incidents from taking place and to control the situation as a whole. --
