100% price hike for vegetables

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Consumers commented that the prices of the vegetables in the market had spiked sky-high. The secretary of the Dambulla Special Economic Center Trade Union, I.G. Wijenanda said that the price of a large number of vegetables including bitter gourd and green chillies have increased. He added that the prices of vegetables have increased by 100% in comparison to the last few months. The secretary explained that the prevailing dry weather condition and the low-value for vegetables in the market in the last few months led to a low supply of vegetables to the market. This ultimately caused a hike in the prices of vegetables in the market.
