Weather forecast: Extreme heat and Thundershowers in the coming days

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Meteorology Department has warned of extreme warm weather conditions in several areas from today (April 13) to Monday (April 15). In the cautionary communiqué, the Department mentioned the following areas as those which will experience extreme hot weather;

• Anuradhapura District
• Mannar District
• Monaragala District
• Vavuniya District
• Mullaitivu District

What is causing this extreme weather?

On the apparent northward relative motion of the Sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka from 5th to 15th April 2019. The nearest areas of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today around noon are;

• Thirukeswaram
• Palaimoddai
• Malikai
• Parakumpura
• Kallarawa
• Rain forecast

The department has forecast Showers or thundershowers for several places after 2 pm in;

• Central Province
• Sabaragamuwa Province (Fairly heavy rain above 50mm)
• Southern Province (Fairly heavy rain above 50mm)
• Uva Province
• North-Western Province
• Western Province
• Ampara District
• Anuradhapura Districts
• Kaluthara District (Fairly heavy rain above 50mm)
