COLOMBO (News 1st) - The final meeting of the Southern Provincial Council was held yesterday (April 08) and its tenure will end from midnight. (April 09).
The National Election Commission noted that the powers of the provincial council will be vested with the Governor of the Southern Province.
It was reported that tenures of several provincial councils have concluded. Namely, tenures of the Eastern, North Central and Sabaragamuwa provincial councils concluded in 2017 while the tenures of North Western and Northern provincial councils came to an end in 2018.
The tenure of the Western Provincial Council will come to an end tomorrow (April 10th) and the tenure of the Uva Provincial Council will end in September.
