Teachers Strike

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Teachers and principals have taken sick leave and launched a token strike over salary anomalies today (March 13). The Education Ministry issued a communique regarding the strike and noted that both teachers and principals are being misled by some trade unions for their personal political advantages. The communique added that the Education Ministry has already submitted a proposal with regard to rectifying salary anomalies to the special salaries commission. The communique further added some trade unions are pretending that the submission of the proposal was a result of their struggle. However, the Ministry states that necessary steps will be taken to rectify the anomalies based on recommendations received.
