Colombo (News 1st): The National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection, has requested the President to remove Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka from the committee which was appointed by the president to look into the tender process regarding the proposed LNG power plant located in Kerawalapitiya.
In a letter addressed to the President, the National Movement claims that the appointment of Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka threatens the independence of the committee. The letter also states that the minister had got his residence renovated several years ago by LTL Holdings, which is the parent company of Lakdanavi Limited, a direct bidder for the relevant tender.
The National Movement also claims that a separate room for meditation was constructed for Minister Ranawaka at the Lakdhanavi power plant located at Kerawalapitiya. The movement highlights that the minister's representation in the committee creates a conflict of interest.
Meanwhile, the movement has also requested that Minister Champika Ranawaka be removed from his position, due to several allegations levelled against him regarding coal power plants. The letter further requests that the ministerial position be replaced with another individual apart from Minister Sagala Rathnayaka.
