Reuters - Just in time for Valentine's Day, a giant condom and other volunteers canvassed Mexico City on Wednesday (February 13) to hand out 100,000 condoms to subway riders and passersby all around the city.
The campaign was organized by the Los Angeles-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation to coincide with World Condom Day and the group says the 100,000 figure was a new record for free condoms distributed in the Mexican capital.
Volunteers, some dressed in giant, smiling, red condom suits, spread out across the city handing out rubbers in the subway, streets and city parks encouraging people to practice safer sex.
One of the people working on the campaign told Reuters the days around Valentine's Day, which is celebrated on February 14th in Mexico and several other countries, is when the most condoms are sold - helping to spark the idea to hand them out to lovers the day before the Feast of Saint Valentine.
