STF cracks down on illegal sand miners

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A number of illegal sand miners were arrested along with their equipment in operations conducted by the Police Special Task Force. The STF noted that five locations at which illegal mining was carried out near the Vairaveli Swaru river branch were raided. A haul of sand, three boats and two trucks used for transporting sand had been seized by the STF. Kekirawa  The STF said that a haul of sand and a tractor used for transporting sand were seized in the Polwatta Mankada area in Kekirawa. Suriyawewa Meanwhile, an individual who had engaged in illegal sand mining had been taken into custody in Buruthankanda, Suriyawewa. The suspect and the haul of sand have been handed over to the Suriyawewa police for further investigation.
