Laggala Green Town declared open

Colombo (News 1st) - The new Laggala Green Town, constructed on behalf of the people, who lost their properties to the Moragahakanda Kalu-Ganga reservoir project, was vested in the public by President Maithripala Sirisena today. This was in line with the fourth anniversary of President Maithripala Sirisena's swearing in as the president of Sri Lanka. The town has been constructed on behalf of the 300 families that were displaced due to the construction of the Moragahakanda Kaluganga reservoir project. The green town of Laggala has been constructed according to new urban concepts,  incorporating the future requirements of the people. The total area of the city is 75 hectares. This town has been constructed with a total investment of 4500 million rupees. It consists of 112 buildings including a newly built police station, a unit management office, a Co-operative Building Complex, a newly built health centre, a public stadium, a pradeshiya saba building, and a public market complex. The town consists of 26 state institutions. Marking the opening of the new town, the president opened a memorial plaque and subsequently participated in a tree planting event, which was held at the premises in the newly constructed town. Later the President declared open the Laggala new divisional hospital. Meanwhile, the new Laggala secondary school was also vested with the public by President Maithripala Sirisena today (Jan 8). President Maithripala Sirisena stated that they have done many sacrifices to fulfil the expectations people had 4 years ago and there are various results of it, there are successes as well as failures. He pledges to overcome these failures in the future. He further stated that they have been defeated in a mission to overcome bribery, fraud, and corruption which was considered as the foundation of the Yahapalanaya political concept and that is the reason why everyone should join hands and be determined to emerge victorious through the defeat. The President noted that while creating an atmosphere of freedom, democracy, economic development, and prosperity all efforts will be taken to promote reconciliation in the country and that everyone must focus on minimizing poverty and developing a well disciplined, spiritual community, and not follow the agendas of political parties who are only concerned about obtaining power. In addition, President noted that the country must be handed over to a group of determined and honest politicians who would keep aside their personal and political agendas and make their future decisions from the conscience of the people.
