Colombo (News 1st) - Politicos gave their perspective on the Supreme court verdict delivered today. Deputy Leader of UNP Sajith Premadasa stated that the independent judiciary must be saluted. He stated that it is now up to the President to take a decision on the next step of the country. He stated that the President needs to enact the constitution in a proper manner and re-appoint Ranil as the PM. The leader of SLMC Rauf Hakeem stated that this decision is a victory. He noted that the President should now respect the rule of law and appoint a Prime Minister and government that commands a majority. MP Namal Rajapaksa stated that even though they do not agree with the decision, they have no other court to go to as the supreme court is the highest judicial authority in the country. He then stated that if the highest judicial body of the country believes that this should not go to the mandate of the people they can only take the fight forward with the people. MP Gamini Lokuge stated that they accept the decision of the judiciary and will not challenge it. MP Anura Kumara stated that this is a very important decision and what has been proven is that the president should act in accordance with the constitution of the country. He stated that the conspirator government has been defeated and that they demand that the president protect the constitution. He then stated that Ranil Wickremesinghe is a rogue protector of democracy. He went on to state that no one in parliament has the right to carry on a proper government, accusing that the parliamentarians have been sold and resold many a time. He stated that this parliament does not represent the true mandate of the people. Dissanayake believes that parliament should pass laws to punish the conspirators, pass the 20th amendment to the constitution to abolish the executive presidency and approve the motion to dissolve parliament.
