Colombo (News1st): A protest was staged opposing the appointments made in the Sabaragamuwa Province even after the provincial council has been dissolved.
A group of UPFA MPs and former UPFA Councillors arrived at the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council demanding the officials to stop providing new employment opportunities in violation of rules and regulations. Since the governor was not present, the protesters handed over an epistle to the officials requesting to stop providing jobs.
Former Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councilor A. Wijayapala noted that the decision to provide jobs in this manner was being done to fulfill the Governor's personal needs. He added that while they do not object to providing jobs, it should be done in a fair way.
UPFA MP Ranjith de Zoysa stated that they have issued a letter of demand through their lawyers, hoping to bring those who issued the appointment letters before the law.
When inquired, Governor of the Sabaragamuwa province Niluka Ekanayake said the appointments are being made in a legal manner without being biased towards any party.
