Colombo (News 1st) - Government sources have confirmed that the skeletal remains found in the Mannar mass grave will be referred to the Beta Analytic Lab in Florida, USA. Chief investigation officer of the Mannar Mass grave Dr. Saminda Rajapakse noted that the information about skeletal remains with bound feet cannot be confirmed and skeletal remains will be sent to Florida USA to ascertain what has been used to tie the feet if it was bound. Dr. Rajapakse refuted claims that there are financial limitations to continue with DNA tests, and explained that the office of missing persons has come forward to provide financial aid to continue with the DNA tests. He added that carbon dating tests need to be concluded before the remains are subjected to DNA tests. Judicial medical officers noted that the 260 skeletal remains of the total 266 remains which were uncovered during 112 excavations are now placed at the Mannar Magistrate premises under special police protection. Excavation at the mass grave commenced in March following the discovery of skeletal remains during the construction of the Mannar Sathosa Building.
