COLOMBO (News 1st) - Deputy Leader of the United National Party Sajith Premadasa requested the President with the Speaker's intervention to stop this unconstitutional and illegal activity that has been going on for 30 days. He further requested that responsibilities be handed over to the group with a legal majority.
Responding to a question posed by a journalist on Ven Rathana Thero's statement that both parties did not agree for a caretaker government, the MP said that the government that should rightfully be in place is a constitutional government which prevailed as of the 26th of October. MP Sajith Premadasa continued to say that the President also believes that they possess the majority in parliament.
Upon inquiring on allegations on assuming party leadership he said that although everyone has aspirations that all needs to be done as per the constitution. He said that decisions are taken after inquiring the ideas of everyone adding that although the President had called him and offered the Prime Ministership on ten occasions that he had declined it because there should be a way things are done.
MP Sajith Premadasa added that since the cutting off of expenditure of the Prime Minister was approved with 123 votes in parliament that there is nothing else left other than the government resigning or being removed now.
These views were presented at a media briefing chaired by the Deputy Leader of the UNP Sajith Premadasa following the parliamentary sessions of the day.
