COLOMBO (News 1st) - Do you ever give much thought to what happens around you? If so have you ever sensed something unusual and weird about stuff happening around?
Well if you have not, there certainly are some weird stuff happening that somehow baffled even the best scientists leaving multiple questions unanswered.
Here are 10 such weird phenomena happening around us, that we surely are not aware of or may not know of and certainly left the hot shots in proving theory also dumbfounded.
What's amazing is all of it is an everyday phenomenon that we encounter but scientists have found no rhyme and reason to it.
1. Peanut allergies
This was apparently not an everyday topic back in the time. Numerous theories have been put forward in this regard, but scientists find it hard to bring it down to one in particular. Scientists claim it could be due to the decreased immune system of kids these days or a problem with the manner of processing peanuts.
2. Tomatoes
Scientists are baffled over the fact that tomatoes possess so much more genes than the human body. Some believe that the high amount of genes could be a survival tactic, but of course since these genes do not contribute to anything substantial the mystery continues.
3. Magnetoception
Did you know that animals possess a rare ability that humans don't possess? That is to feel and sense magnetic fields. Scientists cannot identify the reason for its existence. However, a theory has come by that somehow animals contain magnetic bars in their DNA.
4. Hiccups
Of course, hiccups could be a huge annoyance at times. Scientists claim that it happens when the diaphragm inhales air quickly, or eats and drinks too fast. But what left scientists baffled was why this particular biological response occurs and the way to stop it from happening.
5. Smiling
Scientists question the reason behind smiling or rather when it all started. Of course, we know that a person smiles to express joy. But, who taught mankind to smile is a much simpler question that many scientists tend to comprehend. Theories have been put forward that they learnt it from animals baring their teeth (donkeys, mules, horses etc) but of course, it is not proven yet.
6. Crying
Some of us cry more than others but have you ever stopped to wonder why. It has however been proven that animals cry when they feel pain, but why would humans do that. We cry when we are hurt, but don't we also cry when we cut an onion? Scientists tend to see it as a survival instinct where the person who cries expects the ones around to sympathize him.
7. The Cat's purr
We mistakenly believe that cat's purr only when they are happy, but cat also purrs when they are hungry or sad. Cat's purr in response to something in the environment, but of course the sensation differs from time to time. That is something that cannot be comprehended to date.
8. Breasts
Science cannot provide an answer as to why breasts appeal so much to humans. Clearly, unlike animals who use breasts to produce milk, humans show an unexpectedly high tendency to be fond of it and refer to it as sexually appealing. I might need to throw a bit of a laugh right here, but yes science cannot prove why.
9. Blue eyes
All humans have blue eyes at the time they are born and it gradually turns to a darker shade by the time babies reach two. A question lies as to why it happens that way, while for some others it doesn't. Scientists believe that it could be due to the presence of melanin but some others try proving different stories.
10. Sexual Orientation
Scientists are comprehending on the matter as it determines whether humans are homo or heterosexual based on the gender they tend to choose. What scientists cannot figure out is what part of our body attracts the gender we find most appealing.
