Reuters - Jamie Lee Curtis dominated the North American box office for the weekend ending October 21, as the actress reprised her role as the resilient protagonist in "Halloween." Curtis returns to the role 40 years after she made her movie debut in the original horror movie of the same name and became Hollywood's "scream queen."
"Halloween," which released on Friday (October 19) by Universal Pictures, scared up $77.5 million in ticket sales , according to box office monitoring site boxofficemojo.com Lady Gaga's star is still shining bright in "A Star is Born" with the Bradley Cooper-directed film hanging on to the second position at the box office by adding another $19.3 million to its North American haul.
"Venom," last weekend's no. 1 movie, fell to third place, bringing in another $18.1 million for Sony Pictures. Sony's "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" finished fourth with $9.7 million.
The Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy-led "First Man" about Neil Armstrong's voyage to the moon landed in fifth place at the box office with less-than-projected ticket sales of $2.35 million.
