Colombo (News1st): Minimal use of official privileges vested to a Judge during the period of his tenure had made former Chief Justice Priyasad Dep a much-addressed topic within the society today.
The 45th Chief Justice Priyasad Dep retired from office on 12th October after he had been appointed on 2nd of March 2017.
Refusing to obtain tax relieving vehicle permits and the land which is given to a Chief justice are just some of the admirable actions by Justice Dep. Returning back advance allowances given for foreign tours to the state is a testimony of his efforts to sustain transparency of his conducts, and his efforts to prevail the judicial independence were indeed special.
Emeritus Professor Siri Hettige of the Univesity of Colombo stated that if the leaders want to take the country to a higher standard set by individuals such as Justice Dep should be taken as an example
