COLOMBO (News 1st) - Media Spokesperson of the Army, Brigadier Sumith Athapaththu, said that 1200 soldiers have been placed on standby to attend to any disastrous situations that might occur due to the prevailing weather conditions.
He added that 200 soldiers were deployed yesterday (October 07) to the flood-affected areas in the Colombo, Galle, and the Kalutara districts.
60 soldiers were sent on duty to the Colombo district while 50 soldiers were deployed to the Galle district and 110 soldiers were sent to the Kalutara district.
Meanwhile, the army personnel deployed in the Colombo district were called back to camp.
