COLOMBO (News 1st) - Due to the prevailing weather condition, the water level of the Castlereigh Reservoir has risen.
A shramadana campaign was conducted today (October 06), to extract imperishable waste disposed to the reservoir. The Castelreigh reservoir covers an area of 285 hectares and is one of the main reservoirs of the national grid. Todays shramadana campaign was joined by the officials of the Nuwara Eliya district secretariat, security forces, pradeshiya sabha and residents of the area.
News 1st correspondent of the area said the conflux of the Keselgamu Oya and Dickoya was filled with solid waste for some time. This shramadana campaign was organized by the Nuwara Eliya branch of the National Aquaculture Development Authority.
Meanwhile, an awareness program was also conducted for the locals residing near the Keselgamuwa Oya and Dickoya canal, in line with the Shramadanaya.
