COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka is currently experiencing the inter-monsoon season. As the rain continues to pour down, water levels in many prominent reservoirs have increased. According to the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, the level of water in reservoirs used to generate electricity has risen to 76.4% at present. The daily power requirement for Sri Lanka is 41 GWh. 35% of the requirement is now generated by hydropower. The ministry says that steps have been taken to restore power immediately in areas where power failures have been reported.
