Colombo (News1st) - The Global Parliamentarians Forum for Evaluation was held in Colombo on Monday (Sept 17). The event was organized by the Sri Lanka Parliamentarians Forum for Evaluation together with the Global Parliamentarians Forum for Evaluation.
President Maithripala Sirisena and several other dignitaries attended the event which was held under the theme "Embracing Evaluation for Agenda 2030."
Addressing the forum President Maithripala Sirisena noted that in order to instruct public officials on efficiency, parliamentarians themselves must be efficient adding that the best way to gauge the efficiency of parliamentarians is to see their attendance records in parliament. The head of state noted that Parliament plays host to a number of different consultative, oversight and standing committees and that these committees have a large role to play in determining the future of the county. Ironically according to the President few members attend these committee sessions and many have to be postponed due to the lack of participation.
President Sirisena stated that for a country to achieve rapid development, the MPs should be the ones to set an example for efficiency adding that if a country is serious about reaching development goals, a majority of public representatives should be women.
