Colombo (News 1st) - Foundation stones were laid for another Chaithya (Buddhist temple) which is being built to commemorate the 94th birth anniversary of late President Ranasinghe Premadasa.
The event was held under the patronage of Minister of Housing and Construction and the Deputy Leader of United National Party Sajith Premadasa.
Under the "Sasunata Aruna" programme 1125 temple's are to be constructed in order to commemorate the late president Ranasinghe Premadasa's birth anniversary.
Under the initial phase, 25 temples are constructed in 25 districts.
Today (September 15) foundation stones were laid for the 6th temple in the "Siri Seelavimalarama" Viharaya in Welimada, Meeragahawatte, Balathota Ella area.
Min.Sajith Premadasa addressing the event stated that many opponents of him are currently engaged in changing the minds of the people by uttering charming words about the decline of the Buddhasasabna, only because they love themselves more than the sasana.
The Minister goes on to state that no one has built 1125 temples and nobody has even attempted or thought about it. He stated that this is because most of the politicians use Buddhism as a political tool.
He stated that the hidden purpose of using Buddhism as a tool is to gain power in easy ways and enjoy luxurious lifestyles in the TempleTrees or the President's house.
