EU to fine social networks over slow removal of extremist content　　

REUTERS - The European Union (EU) is planning to impose stricter regulations on social media companies over the removal of extremist content online, according to the EU Commissioner for Security Julian King. The new draft set of regulations state that social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter will need to remove any extremism-related posts within an hour of posting, or the platforms will be fined by the EU. During a recent interview, King said that the EU was not satisfied with the tech companies' slow progress in the fight against terrorism-related content online, with the EU moving to take tougher measures against the companies to tackle the problem. The new rules are included in the new draft regulations which will be published next month before then being submitted for approval by EU member states.
