President launches Polonnaruwa development drive

Colombo (News1st) - Several development projects in the Polonnaruwa district were vested in the public on Wednesday under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena. The inauguration of the “Pibidemu Polonnaruwa" or Awakening of Polonnaruwa, district development programme was held at the Diwulankadawala Central College this morning. The two-storey bulding which was constructed at a cost of 160 million rupees was declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena. Addressing the occasion President Maithripala Sirisena explained that they identified several key areas that they would focus on through this development program. The first among them was the education while the other areas of focus were identified as health, agriculture and infrastructure development.  He noted that development programs of this nature would be launched in all other districts as well and that the politicians in those areas would be tasked with identifying the priorities in each district. The Medirigiriya bus stop, the administrative building of the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Primary School in Medirigiriya, the Irrigation Management Office in Medirigiriya and the new three-storey building of the Medirigiriya National School were all declared open by the President on Wednesday. President Sirisena also distributed mango plants among students of the Medirigiriya National School to symbolize the tree planting programme implemented near schools in the Polonnaruwa District parallel to the Pibidemu Polonnaruwa programme.
