COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Agriculture says the doubled cultivation subsidy for 13 crops will be provided to farmers from this week.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Namal Karunaratne said a subsidy of Rs. 60,000 per hectare, for up to two hectares, will be granted for 13 crops, including paddy.

He said the subsidy was previously set at Rs. 30,000.

The Deputy Minister further stated that steps have also been taken to provide subsidies to farmers who cultivate additional crops on land previously used for paddy cultivation, as they had not been eligible for such assistance before.
