COLOMBO (News1st);Police stated that strict action will be taken against those who intentionally damage Metro buses.

Speaking at a press conference today, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Traffic and Road Safety stated that police have observed this happening in a conspiratorial manner.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Traffic and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadheera stated that Police have observed that the recent series of acts of sabotage and damage targeting Metro buses is the result of an organized conspiracy, and strict legal action will be taken against those involved.

Moreover, several incidents of intentional damage to Metro buses using private buses have been reported over the past few days in areas including Athurugiriya, Makumbura, Kesbewa, Borella, and Kollupitiya.

Investigations revealed that the driver of the private bus involved in the collision with a Metro bus in Athurugiriya failed to possess a valid public transport license, and the same driver had previously caused similar damage to another Metro bus in Rajagiriya.

The pattern of these events clearly indicates a deliberate attempt by a group to cause destruction to state property. Under the direct instructions of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), a full-scale investigation has been launched. Strict action will be taken under the Offences Against Public Property Act, criminal law, and the Motor Traffic Act.
