Court Day for Namal In Krrish & Airbus Bribery Probes

COLOMBO (News 1st): Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently being held in remand custody, has been produced before court in connection with several ongoing legal proceedings.

Among the matters due before court today is the case relating to allegations that Rajapaksa received a Rs. 70 million bribe in connection with the Krrish transaction.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama yesterday ordered that Rajapaksa be produced before court after he was named a suspect in the investigation.

The order was issued after the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption made submissions before court through a motion seeking to designate Rajapaksa as a suspect in the case.

Accordingly, the matter is expected to be taken up before the open court today.

In addition, the case filed by the Bribery Commission over allegations that a Rs. 100 million bribe was received in connection with the Airbus aircraft procurement deal is also scheduled to be taken up today.

Rajapaksa, who serves as the National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), was arrested and remanded in connection with that investigation earlier this month.
