COLOMBO (News 1st) - Police say vehicles with passengers attempting to enter expressways without seat belts being worn will be denied entry.
Police further said that efforts to make the public aware on this mandatory safety regulation will continue today.
Following the awareness period, fines will be issued against drivers and passengers travelling on expressways without wearing seat belts, police said.
The mandatory safety regulation for all passengers in vehicles travelling on expressways to wear seat belts came into effect yesterday (19).
Police said the period given to have seat belts installed in vehicles that were manufactured without them ended the day before yesterday.
