Namal's Remand Extended In Rs. 100 Mn Bribe Case Linked-to Airbus Scandal

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa has been further remanded until September 29 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama after Rajapaksa was produced before court on Friday afternoon.

Rajapaksa was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on September 4 in connection with an ongoing investigation into allegations that he accepted a bribe of Rs. 100 million linked to a transaction involving the purchase of aircraft for SriLankan Airlines, widely known as the Airbus Scandal.

Following submissions made before court, the Colombo Chief Magistrate ordered that Namal Rajapaksa continue to be held in remand custody until September 29 as investigations into the high-profile case proceed.

Separately, On 16th September, Namal Rajapaksa was ordered by the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court to remain in remand custody until September 23. This is regarding the money laundering case filed by the Criminal Investigation Department against Namal Rajapaksa over the Airbus Scandal.
