G.C.E. O/L Subjects To Be Reduced To 7 Under New Education Reforms

COLOMBO (News1st);Under the new education reforms proposed for implementation starting next year, plans are underway to reduce the total number of G.C.E. Ordinary Level subjects to 7, including History and Aesthetic Studies.

This was discussed during a meeting of the Parliamentary Sub-Committee on Education Reforms, chaired by the Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Vocational Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

Accordingly, the proposed reforms intend to introduce vocational education starting from Grades 10 and 11.

The reforms also include introducing modules on Social Cohesion, Law, and Ethics for Grades 12 and 13.

Moreover, It was revealed during the meeting that activity books, teacher guides, and modules required for Grades 2 and 6 have already been prepared as the initial step of the education reforms, alongside ongoing teacher training programs.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, stated that the government's objective is to create a learning environment that nurtures future leaders capable of driving social transformation through investment in education.
