Dry Weather Affects Over 154,000 People Across Eight Districts

COLOMBO (News1st);The National Disaster Relief Services Centre states that 154,167 individuals belonging to 47,368 families across 8 districts have been affected by the dry weather conditions caused by the El Niño phenomenon.

The dry weather has affected the Ampara, Anuradhapura, Badulla, Batticaloa, Matale, Monaragala, Polonnaruwa, and Ratnapura districts.

The highest number of affected individuals has been reported from the Monaragala district, totaling 42,429 people.

Prageeth Danansooriya, Senior Assistant Secretary and Media Spokesperson for the National Disaster Relief Services Centre, stated that drinking water distribution continues uninterrupted in the districts affected by the dry weather.

He added that drinking water is currently being distributed to 132,748 individuals belonging to 40,945 families across the affected districts.
