COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Disaster Relief Services Centre states that, 115,534 people from 35,149 families in seven districts have been affected by the prevailing dry weather conditions.
The Centre says drinking water is currently being distributed to 34,608 people from 13,354 families affected by the dry weather.
The highest number of people affected has been reported from the Monaragala District.
According to the National Disaster Relief Services Centre, 41,360 people from 12,732 families in the Monaragala District have been affected.
Meanwhile, Director of the Department of Meteorology Ajith Wijemanna says that, rain is expected in many parts of the island in the coming days.
He added that heavy rainfall and flooding are may occur after the second week of October.
