Supreme Court Hears Challenges to 22A for Second Day

COLOMBO (News1st); The hearing of petitions filed against the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution will take place for the second consecutive day today.

It is being heard before a five-member Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, along with Justices Achala Wengappuli, Arjuna Obeyesekere, Sampath Abeykoon, and Gihan Kulatunga.

Lawyers representing several parties that filed petitions presented their submissions yesterday.

Additional Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratne presented facts on behalf of the Attorney General.

The total of 67 petitions were filed before the Supreme Court challenging the 22nd Amendment Bill.
