Sri Lanka Exports Cross US$10 Bn Mark in First Seven Months of 2026

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka's export sector has continued its strong growth trajectory in 2026, surpassing US$10 billion in total export earnings during the first seven months of the year.

According to the latest figures, estimated total export earnings from both goods and services reached US$10.49 billion between January and July 2026, reflecting a 5.5% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2025.

Merchandise exports continued to make the largest contribution to overall export performance, generating US$8.19 billion in revenue during the first seven months of the year. The figure represents a 5.05% increase compared to the same period last year.

The services export sector also maintained its positive growth momentum, recording estimated earnings of US$2.3 billion during the January to July period. This marked a 7.02% increase compared to the previous year.

Based on provisional data released by Sri Lanka Customs, together with estimated export values for the gems and jewellery sector and petroleum products, Sri Lanka's merchandise exports in July 2026 amounted to US$1.29 billion. While this reflected a marginal decline of 1.3% compared to July 2025.

Meanwhile, services exports continued to expand, generating an estimated US$351.92 million in July 2026, representing a 3.75% increase over the corresponding month last year.

As a result, Sri Lanka's combined export earnings from both goods and services reached an estimated US$1.64 billion during July 2026, reflecting a 2.63% growth compared to July 2025.
