Contaminated Soil From Heiyanthuduwa Paddy Fields To Be Removed And Destroyed

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Environment states that steps have been taken to collect and destroy the layers of soil contaminated with chemicals that flowed into paddy fields from a container yard located in the Heiyanthuduwa area.

The Ministry mentioned that an investigation is also underway in this regard.

Following the leakage of a chemical solution used for rubber gloves from a container into a paddy field, water supply to Ambatale and the south of the Kelani River had to be suspended yesterday.

This was due to the risk of the relevant chemical solution mixing into the Kelani River.

Subsequently, after confirming the safety of the water, the water supply was restored to normalcy.
