Five Killed In Tipper-Tractor Crash In Monaragala

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Five people have died in a road accident that occurred early this morning on the Kalu Bridge in the Kumbukkana area along the Wellawaya–Monaragala Road.

Police said the accident occurred when a tipper truck collided with a tractor.

Eight people travelling in the tractor sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Monaragala Hospital. 

Five of the injured later succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased, aged between 21 and 56, were residents of Dodamgaslanda, Buttala and Horabokka areas.

Police said the drivers of both the tipper truck and the tractor have been arrested in connection with the accident.
