COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation states that steps are being taken to launch a passenger drone service.
Deputy Minister Ruwan Kodithuwakku noted that the service will be operated in the country by China's EHang company.
The pilot project of the service is scheduled to begin starting next month.
In the first phase, the drone service will operate from Colombo to locations along the southern coastal belt, as well as from Katunayake to the Port City.
The Deputy Minister stated that this will provide capabilities for promoting the tourism industry, utilizing the service for emergency disaster response, and fulfilling maritime navigation needs within the marine sector.
The Deputy Minister further stated that the drones will be automatically controlled from a main control room, with AI technology being utilized for this purpose.
