COLOMBO (News 1st): Former State Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, also known as Pillayan, has been remanded in custody until the 1st. He was ordered to be remanded when he was produced before the Batticaloa Magistrate's Court today via video conference.
He was remanded in connection with a case filed by the Criminal Investigation Department in the Matale Magistrate's Court regarding five murders that took place in several areas of the Batticaloa district in 2008.
The charges leveled against him include the shooting and killing of two people, including a former police officer, near the Kallady Murugan Kovil in Batticaloa on January 9, 2008, the shooting and killing of two people along the Kattankudy Main Road on May 22, 2008, and the shooting and killing of another person by an armed group in the Kothiyapuli area of Vavunativu on the night of August 20, 2008.
