Esala Perahera To Take To Streets Tonight

COLOMBO (News 1st): The first Kumbal Perahera of the historic Esala Perahera festival at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy will parade the streets tonight.

All arrangements in Kandy have been finalized for this purpose.

The Kumbal Perahera will be held for five days starting today, and the Randoli Perahera will commence on the 23rd.

Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela briefed about this first Kumbal Perahera.

People are already arriving at the streets of Kandy to witness the first Kumbal Perahera.

Kandy District Secretary Indika Udawatta stated that all necessary facilities have already been provided for the people coming to view the Perahera.

Meanwhile, a special security and traffic plan is in operation around Kandy city during the Perahera period.

A major security deployment has been arranged for this year’s festivities, with 6,200 police officers and 564 officers from the Police Special Task Force assigned to security duties.

Meanwhile, the Police have introduced a special information management system for the public to easily obtain necessary information regarding the Esala Perahera festival.

The public can access this system by visiting the official website of the Sri Lanka Police at www.police.lk and selecting the link "Kandy Esala Perahera".

The Randoli Perahera is scheduled to parade the streets from the 23rd to the 27th.

Following the Day Perahera on the 28th, the historic Kandy Esala Perahera festival will come to a conclusion.
