Two Police Teams Probing Daylight Killing in Maligawatte Linked-To Kanjipani Imran

COLOMBO (News 1st); A man was shot dead in broad daylight today (10) on Sangharaja Mawatha in Maligawatte in what police suspect to be the result of an ongoing conflict between organized crime groups and narcotics traffickers.

Police said preliminary investigations have revealed that the victim was a relative of underworld figure Kanchipani Imran.

The victim was reportedly standing near a building materials store when he came under gunfire.

The deceased has been identified as a 54-year-old businessman from Kirulapone.

According to police, two assailants arrived on a motorcycle, opened fire using a revolver and fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Investigators suspect the shooting may have been carried out as a result of a continuing rivalry among organized criminal gangs and narcotics trafficking networks.

Two dedicated police teams have been assigned to investigate the incident and identify those responsible.
