Over 100 Types of Unregistered Medicines Seized

COLOMBO (News 1st): A warehouse storing illegally imported medicines used for the treatment of cancer and heart disease, valued at more than Rs. 10 million, has been raided by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) in Havelock Town, Colombo.

The Consumer Affairs Authority said the operation led to the discovery of a large stock of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment that had allegedly been brought into the country illegally.

According to the Authority, investigators uncovered more than 100 different types of unauthorized medicines and medical products during the raid.

The Consumer Affairs Authority warned that the sale and distribution of unregistered, unauthorized or substandard medicines pose a serious threat to public health and safety.

Authorities have urged the public to provide information regarding individuals or groups involved in the sale of illegal medicines and other health-related products that could endanger lives.

The Consumer Affairs Authority further stated that information on such activities can be reported during office hours through its 1977 hotline.
