Ex-Deputy Chief Secretaries Arrested Over Procurement Probe

COLOMBO (News 1st): Two former Deputy Chief Secretaries of the Southern Provincial Council have been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

The individuals arrested are Poddivila Kankananage Sunil and Vidura Prasanna.

They were arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into the purchase of plastic chairs outside of the stipulated procurement process.

They have been accused of purchasing 408 armless plastic chairs from a private institution in Galle in 2019 without the approval of the Governor, by bypassing standard procurement procedures.

The suspects were released on bail after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
