30% of Dengue Cases Among Children Under 19: Spread of Dengue Across 12 Districts

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Dengue Control Unit reports that 30% of dengue cases reported across Sri Lanka are among children under the age of 19.

Community Health Specialist Dr. Prasheela Samaraweera stated that the remaining patients are mostly between 20 and 65 years of age.

She added that the highest number of dengue-related deaths has been recorded among people aged over 65. 

Meanwhile, the NDCU says that the spread of dengue remains high in 12 districts across the country.

A total of 78,125 dengue cases have been reported so far this year.

The highest number of cases has been recorded in the Gampaha District in the Western Province with 16,798 cases.
