COLOMBO (News 1st): The Attorney General today informed the Supreme Court that steps have been taken to institute legal proceedings before the District Court to recover taxes allegedly owed by liquor manufacturing companies that have defaulted on their tax payments.
The disclosure was made when a Fundamental Rights petition seeking an order directing the recovery of unpaid taxes from liquor manufacturers was taken up before the Supreme Court.
Appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, the Additional Solicitor General informed the court that legal measures have already been initiated to recover the outstanding tax revenues from the relevant companies.
